So finally I am writing our new brand of the months first section. Rebel 8 have been my most worn brand for a long time now. I own 3 hats numerous t-shirts and used to have a pair of Sk8 highs from their collaboration with Vans. When people say to me what are you wearing? 9 times out of 10 the answer is Rebel 8. Any way, enough brown nosing here is a run down of what they do.
R8 is the handy work of Mike Giant and Joshy D. They have been running since 2003 and the story, as they so poetically put it on there website www.rebel8.com, goes a little something like this;
"Joshy D. and Mike Giant met in the late 1990’s in San Francisco’s then bustling graffiti scene.
Josh ran the popular graffiti website, HiFiArt, and Mike was one of the city’s most notorious writers. Years later, and having had some experience with a previous clothing venture, Josh approached Mike about creating a handful of t-shirt graphics. Mike agreed, and with $500 a small batch of shirts was made. Josh sold those shirts out of a messenger bag around the city, and REBEL8 was born."
Mike’s art has been displayed in galleries all over the world and is now being worn by all kinds of people from Hip Hop to Metal fans. They released a big (you might say Giant, mwahahah!) collaboration with Vans, simply entitled “The Mike Giant Pack”. They collaborated on a range of trainers and t-shirts that were available in vans stores everywhere.
They have since had a few more interesting collaborations, with brands such as Benny Gold and most recently Morning Breath. They have just released their Winter season and the gear is doper then ever. With high quality jackets and now leather New Era hats they have really stepped their game up.
So that’s a brief look at our brand of the month, I am very proud to say that Joshy D has agreed to answer a few short questions for Megzy’s Gibberish and I will covering all new developments at the Rebel 8 camp.
As always, thanks for reading!
